Sometimes a weekend can become a real mini-trip if you choose the right direction. With the support of friends, the warm spring sun and the desire for a short but meaningful rest, we decided - this week the road will lead to Gulbene and Alūksne . And believe me - those two days remained in my memory as one of the best ideas this spring.
☀️ Morning: Gulbene Railway Station and the history of trains We started the day with a visit to Gulbene Railway Station , where the tour revealed the era of steam locomotives. There are historical pieces of equipment there, and if you're lucky, you can see a real steam train in action. Our guide was full of enthusiasm, and the children listened with fascination.
🍯 Lunch: Local farms and tasting experiences After the tour, our next destination was local farms , where you can not only enjoy tastings, but also get involved in cooking. We went to a tasting of homemade cheese and honey. It was not only delicious, but also a warm meeting with rural people. 🎳 Afternoon: Bowling with friends Later we arrived at Gulbene Bowling Center . Laughter, strikes and competition became the sweetest part of the day. Don't forget to book a lane in advance, especially on Saturday nights - the place is popular.
🏨 Peaceful accommodation At the end of the day, we chose a small guesthouse on the edge of the city , where we had the opportunity to enjoy a sauna and a view of the forest. The night was peaceful and starry.
🚂 Morning: A trip with Bānītis to Alūksne Sunday morning began with Bānītis ' trip from Gulbene to Alūksne. A trip through spring landscapes, a slow rhythm and a pleasant clatter on the rails – it's an experience you don't want to end.
🎨 Lunch: Alūksne Station Quarter Upon arrival, we went to the Station Quarter in Alūksne . Interactive exhibitions, museums, small workshops, art installations - children can work, parents - explore. A combination where everyone finds their own.
🌊 Afternoon: Alūksne Lake promenade and farewell Before going home, we went for a walk along Alūksne Lake . The promenade is well-maintained, with the opportunity to rent a boat, sit by the water or just be. A peaceful end to an intense but fulfilling weekend.
